What is Botox? How long does it last?
Botulinum toxin is a muscle relaxer. It works by temporarily inhibiting muscle movement. It is well known for use on the forehead, frown lines and crow’s feet. By inhibiting muscle movement, it stops the skin from creasing and therefore stops wrinkles from forming. Botox is best used as a preventative; it cannot cure static lines.
For those that want to avoid wrinkles, I recommend that you start getting Botox 2/3 times a year from your mid-20’s.
There are several other uses for Botox, it can reduce sweating if used on the armpits, it can stop jaw grinding and can be used to slim the face. I am trained to a very advanced level in Botox techniques and have a wealth of experience treating both the face and neck.
The effects of Botox kick in around 7-14 days after your initial treatment and take 3-6 months to taper off completely. The longevity depends on the area treated and your own body. If you want to maintain your results, I recommend having treatment every 12-14 weeks.
What happens at your appointment?
Most Botox appointments are relatively short, except for armpit Botox. We start with a full consultation, talking about what you can expect and any other suitable treatments you might consider. Numbing cream is not required for Botox treatments unless under the armpit.
Once treatment has begun it only takes a few minutes. There is no down time after your appointment, but we will talk through some minimal aftercare.
